I brought in my father's old Swiss watch — a piece with a day/date complication that had stopped advancing properly. Razif assessed it properly rather than just assuming it needed a full service. He told me exactly what he found and what it would cost. The complication runs correctly now and the service record he returned with it is something I'll keep with the watch.

The crown on my dress watch had become stiff and I was worried about forcing it. Chronoluxe handled the replacement without any drama — confirmed the correct reference, did the work, tested the water resistance, and returned it with a note on the readings. The winding action is now smooth. What stood out was that they called me before doing anything, even though the work was straightforward.

I needed an obscure part for a 1970s piece — a tube that had been damaged by a previous repair shop. Chronoluxe searched for it through their network and found a suitable old stock candidate within about five weeks. They sent me a written proposal before I committed, which I appreciated. The part was right. The repair held. I'd been told by two other shops it wasn't findable.

An alarm watch that had belonged to my uncle came in with a broken alarm mechanism. I wasn't sure it could be repaired — the calibre is not common. Razif identified it from the reference library and confirmed it was serviceable. It took a few weeks to source one component but I was updated throughout. The alarm now functions correctly. I've since sent two other pieces to Chronoluxe.

Brought in a moonphase watch with an intermittent setting issue. The workshop found the fault in the crown and stem assembly rather than the moonphase complication itself, which meant the repair was much less involved than I'd feared. I appreciated that they didn't assume the worst or recommend unnecessary work. The price was fair and the piece came back on time.

The appointment process was easy and the watchmaker took time to look at the piece properly rather than just quickly assessing it. My watch had a worn stem and the play at the crown was noticeable. After the repair it feels as it should. The report they provided covered everything — I now have a record of the service that I'll refer to in future.

Case studies

Three jobs, in detail

Challenge

A 1968 Swiss alarm watch with a broken strike train — the alarm spring had fractured. A previous repair attempt had introduced an incorrect part, which made identification more difficult.

Solution

The calibre was identified using the in-house reference library. The incorrect replacement was removed. The correct spring reference was sourced through a trade contact in Germany over four weeks. The strike train was reassembled and regulated.

Result

Alarm function restored. Movement regulation within 15 seconds per day. Complete service record returned. Owner provided with reference numbers for any future sourcing requirements. Turnaround: 6 weeks.

Challenge

A diver's watch with a crown that had become notably loose. The owner was concerned about water ingress. The watch was an older reference with a screw-down crown and non-standard tube dimensions.

Solution

Dimensions were measured and the correct replacement crown, stem, and tube were sourced. All three components were replaced together. Water resistance tested to the case's rated depth equivalent. The seal was confirmed within factory tolerance.

Result

Crown engagement correct and firm. Water resistance confirmed. Owner informed of the test result in writing and advised on the recommended interval for gasket replacement. Turnaround: 9 days.

Challenge

An inherited 1980s Japanese automatic with a broken day-of-week wheel. No NOS part was immediately available. The owner wanted the piece to function as designed rather than have the complication disabled.

Solution

A donor calibre was located through the workshop's parts network after three weeks of searching. The specific wheel was harvested from the donor. The movement was serviced during the same job. A written proposal was presented to the owner before committing to the donor route.

Result

Day wheel advancing correctly. Movement regulated to within 12 seconds per day. Full documentation returned. Owner has a working piece with an intact service history. Turnaround: 5 weeks.
